News and Announcements

The Devils have been doing everything right all season – their only minor blemish was a week seven tie with the Black Squirrels of Darkness. Quality pitching, stellar defense, and a can-do attitude exemplified by manager Mike Allen, has resulted in a 73 run differential after ten games. Only two of the other eight teams even have a positive run differential. Only time will tell if any other team can find a way this season to make those Devils go away!

with sadness, chuck eskins has passed away

Posted by Dave Hunt at Apr 6, 2023 11:11AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Chuck managed the Friars of the Tuesday league and his best ever recruit was Steve Strommen -The Minnesota Monster

A Dana, Chuck was the original sodmaster. He was at the field early and took great pride in maintaining our fields and ensuring it was properly set up.

Chuck was a great pitcher who was not afraid to take a shot and he did. One time he played with a broken arm for several weeks before her finally went to see the doctor.

One of my favorite news articles on this website was the one dated July 21, 2018 where Chuck (then 81) and Sal (then 87) faced off as opposing pictures in a semi-final playoff game. Scroll down in News to find the complete writeup.

Last Saturday, before the rain, our ever-handy Jeff Davidson and a friend of his completely redid both dugout benches and the backstop. Please give Jeff a big thank you when you see him!

New President’s Inauguration Speech

Posted by fred kaiser at Mar 8, 2023 3:01PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Hi all my name is Fred Kaiser, and as of Monday I am now the acting President of Dana. My primary goal is to continue to maintain this league as the most competitive, fun and socially active senior softball league in San Diego County. I hope to maintain a very open and transparent policy in dealing with all league members. Therefore, I welcome all questions, concerns, ideas and complaints sent to me.
Besides being a high school baseball coach for 10 years, I have played at every level but professional in both baseball and slow-pitch softball and if it possible to happen in a game, I have seen it.
As noted, earlier Cameron Williams is the new Commissioner, in charge of rules. Mike Allen is now in charge of new player membership and will be beating the bushes to find good quality people to add to our league.
Lastly and one of the main reasons for this announcement is to give thanks and a large debt of gratitude to Dave Hunt for keeping this league the most popular in San Diego for an unprecedented 21 straight seasons. I believe we should all thank him for his tireless work and commitment to the Dana Softball League. See you all Saturday.
